This sculpture was inspired by the architecture of the Alberta Gallery of Art and the colours of the Andy Warhol show that was on for the summer. Middle two are of the small model I made first, the first and last pics are of the larger work. Looks pretty cool in the back yard at night. :D

Arts Based Research

So, I am presenting the work of Andrea Zittel to my classmates as an example of arts based research. I am specifically interested in her "Pocket Properties". These are floating islands that serve as property, dwelling and vehicle. I appreciate how her work as an artist is experiential and involves her taking risks and diving into living situations that can be wonderful or horrible. Her exploration of life as art/art as life, comfort and utility, human values and perceptions interests me. I wish I had the freedom (guts, finances) to explore my life more artistically. I think it is possible to live life more artistically with where I am at now. Although, I'm not sure I could/would do it the same way...
I am interested in the concept of comfort and comfort objects and this may be the area that I delve into as part of my own research.
